Joe caught this fish while fishing for pink salmon to use for bait on the following day's Sturgeon expedition (hence the light line). He hooked the fish above Fort Hanney, and landed it below Port Hammond (approximately 4 miles away). Joe fought the fish for 3.5 hours before finally bringing it in to shore. This fish was caught on Berkley Trilene Big Game 12 lb. line, spooled on a Abu Garcia 6500 C-3, using a 9 foot Fenwick medium action rod (rated for 10-20 lb. line). I still have this rod, reel and line just as it was the day that I landed this whooper (I saved it for verification purposes). According to the I.G.F.A. you can not set a record without bringing the fish to an I.G.F.A. registration office (of which there are none in B.C. and Fraser River White Sturgeon are catch and release only, so, despite all the documentation, photographs and witnesses willing to verify the catch, no credit was issued. But if there is anyone, anywhere, that believes they can beat this line class record, I would love to hear about it. The sturgeon measured 90 inches in length and was 53 inches in girth. Special thanks to Andrew for doing a perfect job running the boat while we chased this fish down, Pure Fishing for making fine products like the 12 lb. Big Game line, Abu Garcia for the reel tough enough to land this fish and Fenwick for building awesome rods (this equipment was put to the test and still works great). Very special thanks goes to Brian Macdonald who took this picture. Brian was one of many spectators that day that watched the show, and asked if he could take a photo (he e-mailed me the photo months later). What an Adventure!!!!!!!!
